Comments: Often illustrated as a classic Surrealist print, Combat was done as a response to the Spanish Civil War and has a kinship with Picasso's Guernica, done a year later. The plates, state proofs and drawings for Combat are at the Brooklyn Museum. A full description of the creation of this print is in Black & Moorhead, pages 48-53.
